In this series, Firstfruits, Dr. Henderson explains how the Israelites saw the firstfruits as an investment in their future. Being an agrarian community, their understanding of firstfruits was that if the people brought their firstfruits to God, He would bless all of the fruit that came afterward. For Israel, the concept of “firstfruits” meant placing the Lord first in every part of their lives. This included the harvest, the shepherding of flocks, and child-bearing—especially in regard to the feasts and sacrificial system of the Law of Moses.
